Site Manager - your online File Manager

the File Manager section is the heart and sole of your website management center. Here you can upload files, copy files, delete files, make new html files, create directories, delete directories, browse all the files on your web site, access the online html editor, upload asingle file, access the multi-file uploader, or link to a image viewer that lists and shows all the images on your site and/or directory.

Navigating the File Manager

The file manager will list all the directories and files with in a particular directory. By default the file manager will start at your home directory.

Current Directory Indicator and Selector


At the top of your file manager is a box that lists the current directory or file folder you are working in. It helps you keep track of where you are in your web site directories and folders. It also has a drop drown menu (click on the down arrow to the left of the box) that allows you to select directories you have visited during your current session. this feature allows you to jump back to a directory quickly.

File Manager Listings


Next the file manager will list - in table format - all the files and folders/directories within the directory you are currently working in. By default, these listings willl start out at your main directory for your web site when you first visit the file manager. Each file or folder will occupy it's own line in the table.

Checkboxes: this column allows you to select multiple files for such things as deleting and renaming. You cannot use the checkboxes to select multiple files to edit.

Name . Type Heading: This column lists the file type indicated by an icon and the name of the file or directory/folder. You will notice that the name of the file or folder looks like a link. If you click on the name of the file or folder, you will be taken to that file or folder. If the file is a text or web page file, you will be able to see the page as it looks. Folders will take you to the directory, but show the default page or index listing of that directory on your web site. To return back to your File Manager after visiting your site, simply click on the back button of your browser.

Size: This colum lists the size of the individual file or the cumulative size of all the files within a folder/directory. The size is indicated in bytes. If you would like to convert that number into "K" or kilobytes, simply divide the number by 1024. If you want to go further and translate to the next level, Mb or MegaBytes, divide your answer by 1024 once again.

Last Modified: This column lists the date that you created, uploaded, or changed the file.

Actions: This column is divided into two sub columns. the first column lists the edit or change directory links depending upon what type of listing it is (file or folder). The second contains a delete link to delete the individual file or folder.

Icons and Links:
This icon indicates the type is a directory/folder that contains files and other directories/folders. You may have as many directory/folders as you wish inside one another. See the create function below.

This icon indicates that the file is a .html, .htm (html web pages), or a .txt (text) file.

This icon indicates that the file is a perl script file. You do not have permission to upload, delete, edit, or copy files ending in .pl . If you need to use a perl script you will need to rename it to .cgi or have us install it for you.

This icon indicates that the file is sound file. You may upload wave, midi, and real audio sound files (.wav .mid ,midi .au .ra)

This icon indicates that the file is a compressed file such as a zip file (.zip). You may upload .zip compressed files.

This icon indicates that the file is an image file, a style sheet, a CGI Script file, java file, or basically all other files not listed above.

This link changes the directory/folder you are working in. In other words, if you need to get to that directory/folder to upload a file, delete a file, edit a file, etc. then click on this link to change to the desired directory/folder until you arrive to the appropriate directory.

This link allows you to access the online html editor. It will allow you to edit the file on the same line as the link you click on. It is recommended that you at least understand some html or scripting before using this feature. You may edit html & htm files, style sheets (CSS), SSI files (.shtml), CGI scripts, perl scripts, java scripts, and text files online. Some system and store files will not allow you to edit them as they are protected files.

This link allow you to delete the file or folder/directory that preceeds the delete link. This is useful to delete a single file. To delete multiple files, select the files you wish to delete int eh current directory/folder you are in (check the box in front of each file or folder), then clcik onthe delete button towards the bottom of the file manager page. Some system and store files and folders will not allow you todelete them, as they are protected from deletion.

Changing to other Directories (or Folders)



You can change to another directory by clicking on the change directory link link beside the directory you wish to get to. If you have already been to a particular directory, you can use the drop down menu in the folder box at the top of the file manager screen.


Deleting Files and Directories



You can delete a file or directory by clicking on the delete link link beside the file or directory you wish to delete. If you need to delete more than one file or directory (in the current directory you are working in only), you will need to select all the files and folders by clicking on the in front of each file or folder, then click on the delete button towards the bottom of the file manager page



Some system files and scripts are protected from deletio. You will receive an error if you try to delete these particular files and/or folders. Bascially, any file you create online or upload as well as folders you create, you can delete.


Editing Files Online



You can edit a file online by clicking on the edit link to online file editor link beside the file you wish to edit online. The online editor will allow you to edit web pages (.htm, .html, .shtml), cgi and perl scripts (.cgi, .pl), text files (.txt), and Cascading Style Sheets (.css). It's recommended that you first learn some basic html or scripting before using this tool. Some system files and scripts are protected from editing online. You will receive an error when trying to save edits to these files. Any of the above files you upload or create online, you can edit online as well.

Renaming Files and Folders



You can rename any number of files or folders by checking the checkbox next to each file or folder you wish to rename. Then click on the "Rename" button towards the bottom of the file manager page. The next screen(s) will allow you to change the names as you see fit on those files you selected.


Copying Files and Folders



You can copy any number of files or folders by checking the checkbox next to each file or folder you wish to copy. Then click on the "Copy" button towards the bottom of the file manager page. This tool is best for copying files that need to be replicated for similar web pages, text files, or for backing up files before making changes.


Create HTML File Tool



With this tool, you can create a blank web page for editing online. You can name files with the following extensions: .htm, .html, .shtm, shtml. The file will be created in the currnet directory you are working in.


Create Folder Tool



You can copy any number of files or folders by checking the checkbox next to each file or folder you wish to copy. Then click on the "Copy" button towards the bottom of the file manager page.

Upload File Tool



Use this tool to upload a single file. You may upload any type of file that the system allows to be uploaded. If the file type is not allowed to be uploaded, you will receive an error. Use your back button in your browser to start over. To start, you will need to enter the path on your computer to the file that you wish to upload. For your convenience, the browse button allows you to select the file on your system. You will need to navigate to the directory where the file is located then select it for upload. Once the file is entered or selected, press the upload button. If the upload was successful, you will recieve a confirmation that it was successful. For multiple files, see the next section


Multiple File Upload Tool



Use this tool to upload a multiple files. Once in the directory/folder where you want the files to be uploaded, click on the Multiple File Upload link to start. You will see a list of boxes with browse buttons. Each box will allow you to upload a single file. If you need more boxes, you may reset the amount of files you upload at the bottom of the page. Select the files you wish to upload within each box using the browse button to find the file on your computer. Once you have selected all the files you wish to upload, press the upload button. If the upload was successful, you will recieve a confirmation for each file that was successfully uploaded and an error for those that were not allowed to be uploaded.


Review Images Tool



This tool comes in handy to see the images on your website. It will review all images in all folders/directories below the current folder/directory you are working in. The review will show you the following: the image, path to the image from where you are currently, the size of the image, the height and width of the image in pixels, and a box with cut and paste code so that you can access the image directly using html links (substitute your domain nmae as applicable). This tool will also help you determine at a glance if all your images for your store are compliant with the size requirements for the shopping pages and check out sections, as it shows the width in pixels, and you will be able to spot if any images are not sized correctly.


Review or Validate HTML Tool



This tool will generate a list of all the html type pages in the current working directly as well as those files contained in all the sub directories/folders below the current one. You will get errors that certain directories/folders and files cannot be accessed or read ... that is normal, so ignore them unless they are folders you created. The name is a link to edit the HTML of that file. The "validate html" link to the right takes you to a third party html validation tool. It a useful tool in debugging web pages that don't seem to be working properly. Don't take all it says literally ... you will drive yourself crazy trying to make pages compliant to certain standards. The main thing is to use it to check for html errors that are prohibiting your pages from displaying properly.
